Change Management
Facing change is one of the most difficult parts of life, both personally and at work. Change presents an unknown that threatens individuals on an instinctive level and can fracture team solidarity and productivity. We are, however, living in an age where change is not only a constant, it is increasing in velocity, frequency, and variety.
Our Change Management workshop teaches students how to understand why change affects us negatively (most of the time), how to face change, how to plan for change and how to oversee its implementation in measured, easy-to-absorb steps that will work on individuals and teams. It is based on Steve's book, The Future of Workplace Fear: How Human Reflex Digital Transformation (Apress, 2021). Copies of the book can be made available at a wholesale price as a companion to the course, but this is not obligatory. Each segment of the course comes with handout material.
We also invite participants and stakeholders to provide context regarding their situations to make the course directly relevant to the students' needs.
Topics include:
- The psychology and physiology of change - what happens to the body and mind when facing change
- Change as something that starts - or stops
- Types of change - some definitions
- Managing resistance
- Managing fear
- A review of four key change management techniques
- Comparing change and grief
- Performing root cause analyses to understand resistance to change
- Transitioning through change - helping people let go
- Communication and support techniques
In addition to the Change Management course just described, we also offer Change Management for Leaders, which looks at how leaders can bring their teams through change, and Understanding Organizational Change, and how it differs from regular change management. Our sessions are interactive, and wherever possible, used anonymized case studies drawn from the pre-course assessments. Participants are encouraged to work through and solve their challenges, and ongoing post-session support is always available at no charge. Available as a live online classrom event and private coaching.
